VV-IX Repair question

Sirs,

I made an amateur error of transporting my VVIX on a long trip without taking the motor out. I blame this for my current issue. I tired to play it and it sounds like the table is scraping on something. Any ideas on fix? I am not sure what to adjust or how bad I may have damaged it. My repair experience is minimal...

EDIT: I checked the brake as per the response from the fellow member here (thank you) and I think that is spot on. I took a picture of the break. Best way to "adjust" this?

Check the brake assembly. A scraping sound coming from the turntable is often due to the brake assembly touching the turntable underneath or an auto stop assembly touching the turntable. Simple to fix if this is the culprit.

A couple of things to check... If the machine traveled some distance, make sure the screws holding the motor to the motor board are snug. If they are loose it would allow the motor to droop increasing the chances of the turntable rubbing on the brake. Put a few drops of oil on the leather portion of the brake where it rubs on the inside of the turntable. Enjoy your IX. It's a classic machine. Jerry Blais

As said above check the brake. I have put the turn table on and the brake was not properly seated and hit the turn table. Also you may have slightly bent the brake lever up and it is hitting the turn table. I have had the turn table hit the spring area also. Someone also said to check the motor mounting bolts that could make the turn table crooked and hit the brake. Take the turn table off and see if the noise is below in the motor area... Maybe you can put a few washers on the spindle below the turn table, spin it manually, and see if it squeaks. Only a suggestion to do if possibly you can isolate the area of the noise. Tom B
