It's not too late to play your favorite cylinder or Diamond Disc to honor the great inventor's birthday!

He not only amassed an amazing number of patents, but by example, he taught the world how to invent. As Bill Gates stated in the foreword of Leonard DeGraaf's book, Edison and the Rise of Innovation: "Innovators still have to work in teams. Innovators still have to understand and solve real-world problems, and they still have to persevere for the long haul." Happy Birthday Mr. Edison!

The previous post was just right. I decided to play all three of my Edison Phonographs this evening. One of the records chosen was "Let Us Not Forget" along with others.

I was "checking out" (handing over my credit card) at the Dentist's office, and realized what day it was .... the little girl who was attending me pretended to be interested when I announced: "Oh, February 11! This was Thomas Edison's birthday, 170 years ago!". I am sure she had no idea who was "Thomas Edison" - her face definitely did NOT light-up with recognition. That is sad, but maybe history is reserved for us males.

Exactly right. He is credited with establishing the first "R & D" lab. That's probably arguable, but it's most likely the best early example of such a thing.

I celebrated by attending a viewing of Young Tom Edison, sponsored by the Thomas Edison Depot Museum in Port Huron, MI. http://www.phmuseum.org/thomas-edison-depot-museum/

Our MC for the evening was none other than the Forum's own Dave Dazer. He did an excellent job. After the film he did a short talk on many of the film's instances of taking "poetic license" with the actual facts. Much to Dave's surprise, no tomatoes were thrown. (Though one confused attendee did hiss at him. I may have been partially responsible for that...) In all, an excellent time.
