This is truly a spectacular piece and perfect for your opera based collection. A machine like this adds so much interest to your collection. The ONLY thing I question about your description is the comment about this piece being "home made." The superior quality of construction points towards it being a product of a professional craftsman. I would lean towards thinking that it was commissioned by a wealthy opera lover. I've seen a music box that was hidden inside a exquisite Swiss chalet. Could a machine like this be a product of a similar cottage industry?

Forum member CarlosV suggested it may have been made in the Black Forest in Germany. Could be. There is nothing on the machine that has given me a clue yet as to its origin. I'm hoping someone will eventually come forward with more info.

What are you all smoking ? It has no age the paper dates its manufacture to 1988 , none of the parts are of the same age , you could call it an elegant crapophone , THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES ON ! Should be transferred here
