I have a VV-X like that in Tiger Oak. In Los Angeles they sell for a lot more than they do back East. I paid $650, but it is in excellent condition.

Here's my take on it. All this assumes it's a reasonable price, but really, it's not a question of that. That model is a fairly basic one, with low collector value. Not bashing it, (I have one myself). But, if your wife is leaning hard towards "no", you gotta ask yourself if this model is worth the debate over it? Say you win her over and buy it, then what happens when a really cool machine shows up? You'll have one more then than you do now. Her resistance will all the greater. I say, choose your battles and wait for a more worthy example.

$200 is a very fair price as long as it doesn't need motor work.

If I didn't already have a perfectly nice XI, I'd go for this. Check it out on the Edie site: http://www.victor-victrola.com/X.htm
Dates from 1916, so definitely Exhibition sound box and appropriate taper tube. Nice find. For reference, I paid $100 for my XI-G in 1980, then sent the motor board out for a CLA and had the sound box rebuilt (adjustments later tweaked by me). Aside from gaskets and back flange, no new or replacement parts were needed.
