Clanging in Mandrel

Post by Debug687 »

Hi,
I have an old Edison Home Model A Suitcase phonograph
that actually plays well
but there is something small that's clanging and bouncing around in the mandrel itself.
I have THE COMPLETE TALKING MACHINE BOOK by Eric Reiss
but there in no mention on how to take apart the mandrel to remove the "offender" .
Any suggestions ?

Maybe it's a gold coin! I've never attempted to remove a mandrel from a Home A but I've taken plenty off the shafts of D Standards. I've used a block of wood and tapped the mandrel off the shaft. It's a friction fit and easy to do. I'd suggest giving that a try.
