Making an EMG like horn

Post by 12jslater »

How could one go about making a horn similar to that of an EMG oversize? Would paper mache on chicken wire be sufficient if thick enough?

EMGCR built brand new fiberglass horns and posted in this forum several details of the daunting work involved in building them. The original horn has no skeleton structure, and it is not papier maché but made only of paper sheets bonded on top of each other - actually pages of newspaper - in the technique known as papier apliqué. You can actually peel off the pages from a EMG horn. The main difficulty in building such horns is to make a proper mold and to make a structurally stable question mark shape. The original has its base made of metal and bonded to the paper part to be able to hold without collapsing under its own weight.
