FOR SALE: Edison Kit to Convert Home/Triumph w/ Model O $500

Post by Crank_it_up »

Sorry but subject line was difficult to write, here's what I am offering. It is an original kit to convert either a Home or Triumph to a Horizontal Carriage and includes the carriage, the Home adapter, a horn adapter to keep your existing front mounted horn and a Model O 2/4 minute reproducer. It all comes in its original wooden box and stenciled on the top. The setup looks like it may have never been used except maybe the reproducer which has swollen over the years and the edge has been machined to fit in the carriage. It's still a tight fit, but works. The nickle finish is really good but again the pot metal has crackled from swelling. See images, they speak for themselves. Priced at $500 plus actual shipping/required insurance costs. No PayPal but check or money order is fine. Thanks for looking, please send PM or ask for more pics and I will post them.

Joe,

I believe that the reproducer top came from an "R" or "S" reproducer.
I don't think that the "O" reproducers ever came with a domed top?

I will check with Steve Medved and post a response, but I'm fairly certain I have seen dome tops on O's before. Let's see what Steve says. I'm sure others will chime in as well.
thanks, Joe

The dome top appears by 13330 in the R&S tops and in the 41,000 range in the O&N reproducers. There are two types of dome tops, indented letter and raised letter. The R&S share serial numbers and the O&N share serial numbers. When Edison stopped making the R&S reproducers he used the tops stamped with their serial numbers to make the N-56 reproducers. 31106 (R&S S/N) N-56, 31104 (R&S S/N) N-56, and 31101 (R&S S/N) N-56 are some examples of these. In the O&N reproducers the N-56 appears by 70766. The O came out in Oct 1910 and the R in March 1911 and during the period of time they were made together Edison used the same tops. All R&S tops are pot metal and 13330 is the earliest S I have seen. With Edison there is always an intermix.

The R and S are basically a large top reproducer with a reducing or shoe adapter to allow them to fit into a small carriage. If you look at the R and S you can see the slot for the centering pin. Beginning with the dome tops the large top reproducers were made so they could be used for a Model R S O or N. The three holes in the bottom of the weight are drilled and tapped so a reducing adapter could be installed to make an R or S, or a large hinge block could be installed to make an O or N. Edison made the large hinge blocks the same thread size as the adapter attaching screws 1-64 threads.

I have what appears to be a NOS N-56 with the dome top that is SN 70766 (the same SN you quote?) I guess I find this interesting..........Any info on how many N56's were produced?
Thanks for posting the great info!

My N-56 is 31539. It has been Medvedified, and sounds quite nice.
