Initial Pics - Lauzon William & Mary Phonograph

Sean reminded me that I had promised pics of the Lauzon phonograph that I found in Michigan last November. After getting it home, I was finally able to move it upstairs but not in an area that is convenient to take pics... New Years Day I got double pneumonia and am finally recovering from that episode. So, I took some initial pics and will take more as the project progresses. Right now, the motor is out waiting for a spring repair... The spring barrel is enormous and appeared to have four springs inside. What I found was two huge 2" springs, one of which was broken a few inches from the center. So, I am waiting to determine whether a replacement is available or to just repair the existing spring which is otherwise in good condition.

The machine is large for an upright... 25" wide x 25" deep and 48" tall. It has double props for the lid and also has a little light inside near the turntable. After cleaning a portion of the wood with GOOP, it appears to made of walnut. The grill is very detailed and carved, not molded, which seemed somewhat unusual to me.

The machine is decorated the same on all sides, so that if it was sitting in the middle of a room, there would be no unfinished side. That is about all for the details, and I took pics of various areas to show the detailing...

Beautiful! I especially like the grill. Also, the cool auto stop mechanism. Only seen one other. That has to be the biggest Meissenbach motor I've ever seen! I have a four spring M motor, but this is the first I've seen with 2" springs! Cool!

Nice pictures, Curt. Well worth the wait. That's one of the nicest off-brands that I have seen. This should be a featured phonograph.

That is one handsome phonograph! Obviously, it has been well cared for since it was new. I am surprised that grill has survived, which is wonderful. Love the beading decoration too. Nice score and thanks for sharing pics. I second the thought of a featured phonograph! Steve

The grill is solid wood and carved, not pressed or molded...

Nice machine. I have a Newby and Evans machine with that same motor (and also at least one broken spring). The machine I speak of is in one of George and Tim's books and has been on my "to do" list for longer than I will admit!
