WANTED: Grill Cloth
I need some grill cloth for my Lauzon phonograph. I have a picture from an ad that shows it, but have no idea what it is or where to find it... Any ideas about using a different type?

Re: WANTED: Grill Cloth
I will post pics as soon as possible... I'm still recovering from double pneumonia that started on New Years Day, but am starting to see the light. I'm not coughing my head off anymore, so I will do my best to take some photos... Yesterday my wife had lithotripsy for a half inch kidney stone, so this year has started out to be one of the worst... Getting old isn't much fun...OrthoSean wrote:We're still awaiting to see the actual machine...

Re: WANTED: Grill Cloth
Thanks, guys... I did meet my deductible, but I discovered that my warranty had expired years ago...
By the way, I am recovered enough to start some projects, but that pneumonia made me feel like I'm now back from the dead...

Re: WANTED: Grill Cloth
Hi,
That looks a lot like the fabric I bought for my Edison A-150 grille cloth (OK, time to 'fess up: unless an original fabric is still in place, I care nary a whit about "authenticity" where phono grille cloths are concerned; I usually choose what I think would look pretty on the machine, just the way I'm sure original owners must have done all the time.) My wife, the sewing expert in the house, says it would be called "sheer upholstery fabric"--it's the stuff people buy to make sheers for window dressings and the like. I got mine at G Street Fabrics in Rockville, MD. Alas, that venerable store has been through two moves since then, each to downgraded quarters, and with each it's dumped much of the decades' accumulation of stuff that used to make it such a good source for the unusual, so it may no longer stock anything like that. As usual, the Internet will probably end up being, if not your friend, then at least your best option. I hope that helps a bit!
[edit] Just noticed you are a fellow "My Pathé" kind of guy.
I wish my Pathé cylinder machine were as nice as yours--mine is a Model 0, and in practice, although I have the inter-sized slip-on mandrel for it, it isn't good for much but display. I have it sitting on a high shelf with a ceramic rooster pretending to be Nipper.

I bought that machine and paid too much for it precisely since it was in fantastic original condition... Now, we both need the Pathé rooster to sit by our machines. One of those roosters is on eBay now, but they like it too much...
I found one in an old hardware store, painted black and in sad condition. I tried my darnedest to talk them out of it and offered what they thought was stupid money, but they were under the impression that it was part of a sewing needle display that had always been in the store... you can't buy sentiment.
