Had some free time this weekend and a new (old) machine. Hope you enjoy.

I enjoyed your video, Gary.

That recording gave me a nice earworm for the morning. An hour of Carlos Santana drove it out, though, so I'll have to have another listen to your video later on today. :)

Thanks Fran, there is only one other record I know of with Ellen Coleman, which I don't have on DD, :x 51242 She Walked Right Up and Took My Man Away. Apparently her real name is Helen Baxter. Maybe someone else has more info on her than I.

Nice! Much enjoyed. Wonder how this singer made the cut, but Edison rated Bessie Smith "no good?" !! :?

Thanks and notice the "Red Star" it was given. We DD guys know what that means. I believe she only did this record and the L side on 51242.

Very nice video of a great sounding machine. This record is historically significant because it is one of the very few recordings of the great black pianist Lemuel Fowler along with it being one of the very few records by black artists on Edison. Don't know who the other musicians are but it is a fine sounding band.

I wonder what Edison would've thought of Ethel Waters' voice? Maybe better than Bessie Smith. He said "NG"for Bessie's voice.edisonplayer
