The smell of rat urine was so strong...
the executor wore his handkerchief on his face, liquidating the estate of famous violinist Edna Gansel Dundon, author of The Echo of the Soul; the Story if the Violin, 1937. Ah, provenance!

Missing leg was found among other rubbish, will post later. Only real problem is the missing fretwork. Any suggestions?

Covah, I envy you! As regards the fretwork; I once replaced some of a frieze in a C-19 using a rubbing on tracing paper and cutting it out of mahogany veneer by hand. It ended up looking OK but took a long time. I wonder if the guy who makes repro Edison grilles (was it Gramp's Treasures?) could do that for you? If you decide it isn't worth the bother, I'd be glad to take it off your hands.Covah wrote:Only real problem is the missing fretwork. Any suggestions?

I know what you mean. That urine smell can knock someone out!
Great price too. Who can go wrong at $45?

Gluing leg. Oops, looks like someone cut a notch. Shape and insert spline, sand to fit.

Make sure your cabinet is all the way dried out before you start gluing all the veneer down, or you may find it will pop loose in the center when it does finish drying out. It kind of looks like it came from a damp situation. Then you'll have a lot of fun getting glue under it and getting it settled back down flat. If you put baking soda all over the thing, it will kill any smells that are in the wood. Looks like a nice project for you though. I can look and see if I have part of one of those fretwork panels for under the lid if you don't already have one. I junked one of those out many years ago and might have kept that part.

Project came to an end when the bullet brake disintegrated, it was a mass of rust. Expect motor, etc. to appear on eBay soon.

Bullet brakes do come up for sale every now and then. Are you sure you are going to part it out? It looks like a worthy project. I think there are even reproduction ones available.Covah wrote:Project came to an end when the bullet brake disintegrated, it was a mass of rust. Expect motor, etc. to appear on eBay soon.
