Edison Model C- Low Volume
My Edison Model C reproducer seems to produce volume on the low side. Is that a sign that it might need new gaskets? The stylus looks good. Ive never had it apart. Thanks

Re: Edison Model C- Low Volume
Low volume is normally caused by bad gaskets, bad diaphragm, bad needle, bad adjustment, something obstructing the tube or just being bad bad bad. Also the wire connecting the stylus to the diaphragm may be a problem. Start with the cheapest the gaskets but check the stylus also. Tom B

I'll start with new gaskets since they are easy. What adjustments are you referring to? I dont see anything that is adjustable.

Be sure to thoroughly check the stylus under
bright light and high magnification. Be very
observant for a flat spot worn on it. That worn flat
spot can and does drastically reduce the sound output
level.
As stated before by others: Also check all of the
other usual suspects:
-Link length and material.
-Complete freedom of movement of everything.
-Good supple gaskets.
-Diaphragm in decent shape.
-Weight riding absolutely parallel to cylinder surface.
(as originally found, my model C had a piece of kite
string as the link. It sounded nice, but the level
was kind of low)

Re: Edison Model C- Low Volume
Thanks. What is the solution when there is damage to the stylus? Are there replacements available?
