Phonograph sign?

Post by JAR »

Anyone know if this sign is legit?
Or a copy. Saw it at an auction today.

I was kind of thinking so, too. Never heard of this company. Neither has Mr. Google.

This was made by a company that sells antique-looking ads, usually very well done in relief, but with no real brands advertised. I bought one that depicts an early 20's football (soccer) match, it's adorning my son's room.

I agree it is a fake. Nothing like this was being made at the time (at least that I know of) and there are a lot of this type of sign in large shipments of English furniture at crudy antique stores all over the place.

These painted wood and plaster reproductions, supposedly advertising all sorts of merchandise, are popular with interior decorators in the UK. They are often to be seen in urban pubs where, to the uninformed, they apparently lend a touch of period authenticity.

I think a sign maker or artist would make a better attempt to make his subject look more like the real item. This isn't always true but the goal of an advertising sign is to sell an object. Jerry Blais

I guess it would please the "steampunk" crowd. I hate that term and don't understand the people associated with it.
