I used the Apache "Open Office" suite for years, until I finally got onto the MS Office train.

Rich,
I think what you're showing in the photo are actually casting marks. The type 1 plate (June 20, 1893) is smaller with its holes being about 2 9/32" apart. The type 2 plate (May 31, 1898) has holes that are about 3 1/16" apart. Looking at the 2 and 4 clip machines here, I find that the right most hole on both machines is ⅝" in from the rightmost edge of the bedplate. On my two clip machine that puts the other hole smack dab under the motor frame. That's where I'd expect you will find the extra hole. Whether or not it's there doesn't change the fact that this is a nice machine. I'm sure that the new owner will be proud to own this bit of history.
Regards,
Martin

Hi Martin,
Went back upstairs and checked the machine again and there are no extra holes.
