Found an Edison Army Navy Today

Post by skere26 »

Estate auction find. Came with something I have never seen before: the matching military crate of Edison records! Going to really go through it shortly and will provide pictures.

And Yes, although this certain meets my love of history and phonographs, I'll be reselling it...got a wedding to pay for :|

At least I can enjoy it for a bit!

That's quite a find. I've never seen the record crate before. Do you have the panel that goes over the horn opening? Jerry Blais

The front panel is missing sadly.

Very cool - I really like the crate. What does the red label say on the underside of the lid?

Congratulations! That is a very neat find!

I did a quick google search for the 314th Field Artillery, and the history of Company B actually mentions the machine, and the fact that it was apparently left behind when heading towards the front in September 1918: "disposed of surplus equipment, and this included our
much admired Army and Navy graphophone, which would be of no service
to us..." (Aside from the incorrect "graphophone", I assume the passage refers to the Edison)

The full unit history can be found here: http://www.wvgenweb.org/marshall/314/314-memoriesb.txt

Appears I'll need a new spring. Granted the spare is still in there but That needs to stay there! Anyone have an extra they'd like to sell?
