SOLD: an Orthophonic made to IMPRESS $300

Post by MicaMonster »

Brass Orthophonic soundboxes sound great. REALLY REALLY GREAT. And they don't crumble to bits like pot metal soundboxes. What's not to like?!?!?!

Pot metal soundboxes resonate deeper than solid brass units. This gives a larger and fuller sound. It's a property of the material itself. And when you find a pot metal soundbox that has no cracks...no warping, and no stress marks in the plating........its like finding a grail.

The unit I am offering here is absolutely lovely. Nice original nickel plating. I have dampened the bearings, and installed one of my silicone mounting flanges. The diaphragm is as nice as they come with no dimples from drops or banging around.

$300. And if you are familiar with my work (tooting my own exponential horn!), you will understand. You can spend less elsewhere, but you can't buy better. It has been stored its whole life in ideal conditions, that's why it is so perfect.

Wyatt rebuilt my Orthophonic reproducer a couple of months ago and I can tell you this - it sounds better than when it left the Victor Factory :D :D
