Need Amberola 30 - 1st Series (Late) Ser.# 39,189 Help..

Subject: Need Amberola 30 - 1st Series (Late) Ser.# 39,189 Help..

Hello All.

I am working on a customer's Amberola 30 machine. The Serial Number of the machine is 39,189. It is a Late 1st Series machine, made in 1916. I am doing a total rebuild of the machine and giving it its million mile cleaning. The machine is all gummed up and is missing a few small parts which I am replacing.

Now to the problem... I am working on the Governor area, and the machine has the Early External Speed Adjustment. The Early Amberola 30's (1915-1916) with the External Speed controls came one of two ways, One version has a Solid Knob/Post that is all one piece, and there is a 2nd version which has a separate post and the Speed Control Knob screws onto it. The machine that I working on has the later. It has a solid screw post that the separate External Speed Knob screws on to. There is also a Spring and a Washer below the Governor Yoke. Someone at some point messed with the External Speed Control Yoke at some point in its past. What I need to know is if there is a washer of some type also above the yoke as well just like the later Non-External Speed Control type. Can a few people here remove their Late 1st Series External Speed Control Governor Covers and take a pic so I can get a look at their Amberola 1st Series Governor setups?? I'd like to see if I am setting this up correctly like Originally intended. I already have the machine running pretty well otherwise. I just want it correct.

Here are some pics of what I am dealing with...

Thanks,

Just for documentation purposes.. Here are some pics of the other type of Early Amberola 30/50/75 External Speed Control knob. I'm assuming its probably the later (latest) revision since it is ALL one piece unlike the one I am working on and have pictured above and contains less parts.

I just want to know if the above Early Amberola 30 Governor setup is complete,...Or if there should be a washer Above the Yoke...Sandwiched between the top part of the Yoke and the Adjustment Knob...?!?!??...Or is there nothing there as shown??!??

Does Anyone have any idea?!???

It's hard to visualize. The early Amberola 30's had the speed control going through the gear cover. The later ones that I worked on had a screw that adjusted the governor. The later gear covers had no hole, so you have to take it off to do the adjustments. Hope this helps.

Like I said, I need a few people with unmessed with Early Amberola 30's with the external Speed Adjusters to remove their gear covers and snap some photos for me, or I am out of luck.. Their machines probably could use a few drops of oil in the Governor area, so this would be a good time.. Both of my own Amberola 30 Machines are both a Series 2 (1917) and a Series 3 (1919) machine both without the External Speed Control...so neither machine is any help here. This customer machine I am working on is a Late Series 1 Machine (1916).

Anyone game?!?

(Sigh.. ;-) )

Tony, try doing a google image search for Amberola Motor. There are many pictures so maybe you will be able to find the answer you need.

Alas, I tried that already.

I only found about two pictures... Unfortunately, It was not enough to make a good determination of all the parts that should be there originally.

Here is a photo of the governor on my Amberola 30, serial number 54482. If this is what you're looking for and need more detail or measurements, let me know. I'm pretty new here but will do what I can to help.
