I finally got the motor fixed for this cute little thing, and here is a demo of how it works.

At the left end of the bar upon which rides the carriage, there is a clever little peg arrangement to help assure you set the sapphire down at the right spot for each diameter of record.
Since it is not driven by anything other than the stylus in the groove, it can of course progress across the record face in either direction, so one can play edge-start as well as center-start discs.
It has a tiny two-spring motor with just enough oomph to play a single side on a full winding.
Sound is good for such a simple device, and it is super light in weight.
No idea about vintage or model designation. Sure wish there was a Pathé book..."Look for the Rooster" (or perhaps "Look for the Cock" for buyers in points west of the Rockies)?
