Antique victrola refined into lighting cabinet?

Post by Chilesave »

OMG! This auction is for a beautiful (I think columbia) that was "refined" into a lighting cabinet. How sad to lose this ornamental phonograph.

Hideous.

I was recently antique shopping in central Florida for an oak desk or cabinet to use as a Victrola (VV-IV) stand. Just about every piece of furniture for sale was painted over with a rough chalky paint, mostly in pale pastel colors. I asked the shop people about it, and they told me that that was the only way they could sell stuff. That "distressed look" was what was in demand by the mostly "hipster" customers that frequent the shop. I was heartbroken to see what were once very nice pieces ruined by the "updating".

I blame "Trash to Treasure" and other such HGTV-like programs.

What I'd have to say about this you wouldn't want to hear! I KNOW what the late Jerry Donnell would've called them! edisonplayer
