Attempting to Rescue Basket Case Columbia

Post by Doc61 »

Hello All, I could use some help in attempting to bring this old Columbia external horn machine back to life. I am having trouble finding a replacement motor or parts to repair what is left of the motor I have. Some pictures are attached to give an idea of what I am working with. The existing motor governor and the gear that drives the governor are shot/gone. The appropriate replacements might get it running. Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks, Doc61.

Hi Doc-- I had a chance to dig through my parts-- Unfortuntely I don't have much that can help-- but did find a few things.
I have a governor shaft, but the very tip of the shaft is bent--may be able to be straightened-- or might break off.
I have some governor weights/springs that should work-- The spindle gear that drives the governor shaft is the standard "Columbia Fiber Gear".. New ones are available from Ron Sitko. There is discussion on the Forum on how best to install them.

Do you still need an elbow? I see one in the pics you posted, so wasn't sure.

I also have a push/pull on-off piece-- There were a few different sizes of these. The length of the tube on mine is 2 ⅞". Not sure if it would clear your case or not. It is complete with plunger and spring.

I also found a complete two spring Columbia motor that I believe is for a BI, but I suspect all BH's had single spring motors.

Let me know if any of it can help.
