Oak Edison Opera

I recently bought this machine from Raphael Cole of Musical Treasures of Miami. I wanted to let everyone know he did an excellent job with this fine machine.

That looks like another one of Raphael Cole's beautiful machines. I've yet to hear of anyone not completely satisfied with a machine they bought from him. His machines are always top notch.

Thanks to all for the kind words. Don Gfell made the fine horn, and Gregg Cline repainted the bedplate, the end result being a beautiful phonograph that I had on display in my home atop a Herzog full round cabinet.

For those who need to ship an Opera, or similar heavy phonograph (i.e. Triumph or Columbia GG), I have found the best way is via motor freight. Forget about FedEx or UPS, unless you wish to completely disassemble it, pack it like crazy, double or triple-box it, etc., ending up in a very expensive shipment (I have paid FedEx and UPS upwards of $600 to get an Opera to me). My domestic carrier of choice is R&L Carriers, they have door-to-door service, and call in advance to schedule a delivery. I was able to ship this one to Kris for $200.

Greyhound is about half that price for shipping and they do an excellent job! You can ship a console radio for around $100.00.

Not trying to be argumentative, but really, with door-to-door delivery service, scheduled appointments, etc. they will take a 48" x 48" pallet stacked 55" high for $100? I think not. And it involves going to a Greyhound station, and the customer on the receiving end doing the same. There have to be other considerations than absolute lowest cost.
