Thanks Fran and Joe.
In Joe's 2nd picture is pretty much what I have on my customer's machine. I don't see a washer or anything above the yoke, so I guess nothing was there in the first place originally.
Don't forget to file the pictures away for future reference!

On my 30 (#41597), there was no washer between the arm and the tube.

No Cliff, That is the right kind. It is a two piece speed control knob like the kind that I am dealing with. I believe that the one piece speed control knob came later before it was deleted altogeher. Thanks for posting!
