Just plugging my service that restores and updates the Victor Orthophonic, #2 and #4 soundboxes. For the Orthophonic this includes repairs to the diaphragm, gaskets, swollen pot metal, resetting the bearings, and repairing most damages (and bad repairs) due to time and the elements. I also install one of my custom butyl rubber and silicone mounting flanges. I truly believe I have created what many consider the best performing flange design. Often copied, but never identical. This is the third and final design which I am thrilled with.
For the #2 and #4 soundboxes I install a slightly larger diaphragm, thinner and more compliant hollow core gaskets that will never harden, and the same flange treatment that I perform on the Orthophonic. For both Exhibition and #2 soundboxes the needle bar balance spring tension adjustment is critical. You want JUST enough to hold the needle bar to the reproducer body without rattling, and enough preload to balance the diaphragm when in the playing position.
When sound matters.... drop me a line. I repair ALL disc type reproducers, and make mounting flanges that make them sound heavenly. Newest flange designs: Columbia Viva Tonal and also 3-screw mounted Columbia "analyzing" reproducers. You will want to listen to all your records AGAIN.
