FOR SALE: VICTOR IV WITH SMOOTH WOOD HORN - SPECIAL - $2500

Post by PHONOMIKE »

I’m selling my very nice Victor IV that has a very cool factor to it that I’ll explain later.

You’ve waited a while for a machine like this to be listed, and here it is. My beautiful Victor IV with matching smooth mahogany wood horn. I bought this a few years ago from a forum member. Both have a very nice finish on them. The horn has a small blemish on it but it’s hardly noticeable and it is small. The case is in amazing condition and matches the horn perfectly. The back bracket has all of the decal and stands out nicely. It also comes with the upgraded Victor concert reproducer. The original nickel finish is in great condition. The original license sticker on the bottom of the case is 100% intact and fully legible. Even the turntable felt is original. It plays strong through many albums on a full wind. Look at the pictures and you will see how nice this machine really is. This machine has been loved all it’s life and it shows.

Now for that cool factor I was talking about. If you check the “Look For The Dog” book, you will see that the total production number for the Victor IV’s was 33055. Can you guess the serial number on this machine? That’s correct it is 33055. The same number of total units built. Now with that said, does this mean it is the last one ever made? Probably not since there are others out there with higher serial numbers and Victor started machines at 501 instead of 1. But I still think it’s pretty cool. How many other machines are available with the serial number that matches the same as the last one made, and in amazing condition?

This machine will look good in any collection and will display nicely while playing some of your favorites.

I’m asking $2500 and can deliver this to Union in June for free.

PM me if you have any questions. Thanks.

Mike

Really nice machine. I was always wondering about the number system of the Victor IV. Mine is a late one, S/V 47964 A, way beyond the last number that you have. I was also told that the smooth Mahogany horn is unique to this machine. You don't see this horn very often. The Mahogany spear tip horn is more common than this horn. My machine has the slip in elbow with the slot on top of the elbow. The date on the label on my machine is August 1, 1913. It has the bullet brake which was phasing out by this time. With the condition of your machine and matching smooth Mahogany horn is a real treasure indeed. Good luck with your sale.

I would like to bring everything sold to Union to pass off to their new owner and would like to bring this machine as well. But I will only be bringing things that are sold.

This is a beautiful Victor IV with matching and rarer small smooth mahogany horn. A matching set that looks amazing. A proud showpiece in my collection with that cool factor explained in the opening post.

Final price drop to $2500 with free delivery to Union.

PM me if you are interested or have questions.

Very nice!! I would be interested if I didn't already have this one. Your asking price is very fair for this model with the smooth mahogany horn. Especially in the condition it is in.
See you at Union!!

That serial number is indeed interesting, but your really nice machine is no way the last machine made. There were three or four later models of the Victor IV produced, including one made as late as 1921 which featured an oversized cabinet to allow the use of the Burton motor with its special speed indicator. I'm still looking for one of THOSE.

When you look at sales of Victors I through VI, the Victor IV was next to last in sales. Only the Victor VI sold in smaller numbers. Now consider why the spear tip mahogany horn sold it much greater numbers than the small smooth mahogany horn. The larger spear tip horn could be used on Victors IV and VI as well as the rare Auxetophone and rare mahogany Victor Vs. Also, smooth horns were introduced much later than the larger wood horns so overall sales were smaller. The small mahogany horn was less versatile and was sold for a shorter period of time.

I believe this particular machine a terrific value. It is an uncommon model with an uncommon horn in uncommonly outstanding condition. When I purchased a similar machine years ago I considered it a great addition to my collection.
