Yes, definitely pot metal. The broken throat is a dead giveaway. Most Model O reproducers are pot metal. This one doesn't look too bad. The hard part may be removing it from the carriage, but with patience, it should be possible.

I'm not sure where you are located, but I would send it to a pro. A Model O is a fragile and expensive reproducer. If you make a mistake, it can break into a bunch of pieces. A replacement is several hundred dollars. Also, this reproducer is a candidate for a rebuild. For something like this, it's best to do it right.

I think Paul Baker from the U.K. made Excellent Reproductions of the Model "O" Reproducer from Steel instead of the crappy Original Pot Metal.
It's definitely a Reproducer that should be Reproed more often as Originals are hard to find and are often broken with their own problems.
It would be a good project for someone to take up...

Ron Sitko had replacement tops for the O for a while. They were made out of some sort of lightweight material but I'm not sure exactly what was used. I'm not sure whether he has any more.

The Model N Reproducer would not be bad to repro today either. Somebody was reproing the Model N years ago....I don't know who it was...possibly Paul Baker also.

Many of these can be restored once removed from the carriage. If you aren't familiar with the repair of Edison reproducers in general and specifically the O, I suggest you get in touch with Steve Medved. Your best move would be to ship him the carriage with the reproducer still in it because if not properly done, there is a high potential for damage during the removal of the reproducer from the carriage. I don't have Steve's contact information, but it is easily available here.
