Slightly O/T -- The last Cylinder Phonograph?

Post by OrthoFan »

The Kenner Cylinder Jukebox -- http://blippee.com/blog/all-toys/jukebo ... ord-player

I remember spotting it in the 1972 Sears Wishbook Christmas Catalog, and kind'a, sort'a wanted it, but I was too old--at the time--for that sort of thing.

It actually didn't sound too bad for a toy -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UM9YSzs09JE

I searched eBay for Kenner Jukebox and saw a Disney-branded unit that looks similar. I will bet it works the same way.

Yes, in fact, there was one that sold that shows the cylinder records -- http://www.ebay.com/itm/Walt-Disney-Sin ... 7675.l2557

I notice that on the Disney record that it says "General Mills" below the title. That would've been some awesome cereal-box prize!

Actually, the last cylinder phonograph has not yet been made. You can currently purchase the Archeophone for only $30K. Actually, I find it amazing that 140 years after the invention of the tinfoil phonograph and 88 years after the last home entertainment cylinder phonograph was sold, you can still buy a new state-of-the-art cylinder machine and records.

Hi Tino:

Many thanks for posting that. They certainly were colorful, and obviously well-built for so many to have survived.
