Same thing happens when I use a model H i know is good

Hi, Remove the belt from the top pulley and assure that the either the 2 min or 4 min gear on the mandrel shaft is engaged properly with the intermediate gear. Rotate the mandrel by hand by placing the heel of your hand on top of the mandrel and spin it through to the end of fingers. The mandrel should continue to spin under its own inertia for a while after removing your hand from the mandrel. If it does not then something is binding there in the top works. Check everything out in the top works and let us know. If all is free and smooth running on top then run the motor without the belt. If the motor is running smoothly then proceed to the reproducer, feed nut and so forth.

This is how the gear is on the shaft which is why I don't think it's going on bearing all the way

It looks like a set screw in your governor is missing causing your gov. to move. Make sure it is not moveable on the shaft. Also when it is stopped it should not be up against the speed control pads. It may have slipped due to no set screw. You can move the gov. bearings a little to see if that will help too. Tom B

Looking at the picture of the mandrel shaft it should go all the way on You need to file off the scoring and polish it. I had the same problem. The mandrel shaft needs to ride on that bearing. Tom B

Good eye Tom! that would definitely cause some issues.

Wow! Im surprised it runs at all. Thats an easy fix.

Loosen the set screws on the top belt pulley and 2/4 gear. Remove the mandrel. With the pulley and gear off, dress the mandrel shaft or bushing to where the mandrel shaft goes all the way in and touches the mandrel shaft bearing. When the mandrel is spinning freely, re-install the belt pulley and 2/4 gear. Slide the pulley to the right as far as it will go while pushing the mandrel to the left.Leave a few thousandths of end play between the pulley and mandrel. Adjust the 2/4 gear to engage properly in both positions and tighten the set screw. As Tom pointed out, replace that missing governor set screw and adjust the end play in the governor shaft.
