Sounbox Victrola n°2: Gold Or Nichel Plated?

Hi, my name is Valerio, 27yo and I'm a new user. I'm italian collectionist and I have VIctor Victrola IV 1916.

Some weeks ago I bought 2 type of soundboxes for my Victrola. The first one is Victrola n°2 Gold , the second one is Victrola n°2 Steel plated.

The soundboxes are the same, just different is the colour I think.

What are the different about these soundboxes? What is the best? What is the value?

Welcome to The Talking Machine Forum!

As you guessed, they are both identical besides the color of the plating. For a VV-IV, the nickel plated No. 2 would be correct as the rest of the hardware on the machine is also nickel. If it were me, I'd take them both apart and use the best parts from each. The back on your gold one is in better shape.

I though the 1916 model came with the Exhibition not the #2 (??)

YEs, I know but now I have the #2

The #2 was available starting in 1917 as an upgrade so it is totally fine for your machine.

Properly rebuilt, you could probably get about $100 for it.
