Reproducer Question

Did the Victor company or any third party company make a reproducer which could play vertical and later cut records. Would any of these work on a Victor D?

Victor did not. You could however find a Hughes Stylus (search the forum for info) or a Pathé-made adapter. Both should work on your D.

You might find one on eBay. The Hughes stylus holder would be the least expensive, under $100 (a sapphire stylus normally is built in to play vertical cut records) and the Pathé & Vicsonia are usually $200 or more and with the correct styli you can play vertical cut Pathé records (sapphire stylus) or Edison Diamond Discs (diamond stylus)... However, you might find one cheaper if the seller doesn't know what it is...

There really is no "source" for them, it will take some hunting, and there are no set prices...

There is a Pathé adapter made by Pathé and sold in England that adapts to the tapered arm of the HMVs. I don't know if it would adapt to the Victor D, but the diameter of the portion that inserts in the arm is 21/32". Theses adapters are relatively common in the English EBay, and work adequately: it is never like playing on a real Pathé machine, though, they are not heavy enough to play the more worn records and will skid, but for records in good shape they are ok.
