This is a machine that was built by Walter Welch. It is 2 Triumph top works and motors and they are geared to play together. Charley Hummel has this and Charley said that Welch used this to play 2 of the same cylinder at the same time, with the theory that no cylinder was perfect and that one would makeup for the deficiencies of other other. I am sure that there was some form of echo effect in stereo as I cant imagine getting the cylinders perfectly time aligned. Id imagine there could also be a negative phase cancelation as well due to slight delay of the same waveform.

I helped Charley load it into his van, it is very cool and quite heavy!

Such a contraption could also be used to make
tube dubs.

One cylinder plays, the other gets recorded.
The sound gets to the recorder via a rubber hose
coming from the reproducer on the other machine.

The machines run at exactly the same speed.

Thanks, Wes. Out of this Plebeian's league at the moment. Sure is a nice and unusual one, though!
