A very interesting and informative essay. I think that every collector of any type of antique or objet d'art might benefit from reading it. There is, after all, no royal road to connoisseurship, though we who collect mass produced objects actually have it easier than many others.

Another long read. Rather thick prose, but the paper presents some interesting ideas if one is willing to slog through it.

Wow, I feel like I'm back in college with a big homework assignment with these pieces!

Re: Conniseurship
Very interesting, especially the topic of intuition and trust on the first article. Most of its main assertions are applicable to our hobby.
The second article is more arid, but nevertheless I learned about the levels of tacit knowledge, and their application to establish a hierarchy in the expertise.
High quality food for thought, thanks for sharing!

I don't always read the most interesting academic articles on connoisseurship but when I do, it is over my most interesting brew.

The article applies to beer as well, especially when it discusses the topic of trust.VintageTechnologies wrote:I don't always read the most interesting academic articles on connoisseurship but when I do, it is over my most interesting brew.
