New with two questions

Post by tinear »

I just joined the forum and have two questions right off.

1. Is there someplace inside my machine that will tell me which one that I have; all I know for sure is that it's a Silvertone TruTone Phonograph (decal under the lid)

2. Are parts from Victrolas compatible with the Silvertones? Right off, I am wondering about the tone arm/sound box (the 'head' that holds the needle)

Thanks, am looking forward to some interesting informative reading.........

The Silvertone machines were sold through Sears.I don't believe they were marked with a model or serial number so most of the information as to model and dating is by old catologs or advertising. If you will post a picture, someone on the forum may know what the model is. Parts from Victor Victrolas wont be the same as for your Silvertone. You will probably be able to find the parts you need on Ebay or you can place a wanted ad on the yankee trader on this site. George Vollema has many parts. His contact can be found in the links section. Welcome to the forum.

You're welcome. Just a friendly warning. Buying one phonograph seems to lead to another and then another. They multiply like crazy.

Then I'm glad I didn't get a jukebox; I cannot afford as many of those that I have seen that I like very much.... I will post a picture of my phonograph soon, although I have removed the tone arm already

Another good resource for parts is Ron Sitko. His contact information is in the Links Section of the forum.

I have good luck with George in Michigan.. If you want I can get you a phone number or E mail address. He mostly deals by E mail. As was said above check E bay for parts too but be sure you know what you need so you will not buy the wrong part. Most listing have an ask a question section to use for information and most sellers are very good about getting back to you Tom B

Yes, thank you. If you would pm his email to me, that'd be great!

It would be good to post pictures to help identify your machine and any necessary parts. George will also need pics to determine if he has any parts...

George Vollema's website: http://www.victroladoctor.com
"The phonograph† is not of any commercial value."
Thomas Alva Edison - Comment to his assistant, Samuel Insull.

"No one needs a Victrola XX, a Perfected Graphophone Type G, or whatever you call those noisy things."
