Is there a thread somewhere detailing how this has all come about? I would love to read about it!

There's bits and pieces here and there. The short of it is that I've worked my butt off over the past year and spent a small fortune figuring out how to copy 78's and Diamond Discs.SteveM wrote:Is there a thread somewhere detailing how this has all come about? I would love to read about it!
PS. This batch has sold out but there are more to come!

Hi Don,
Are you planning any enhancements, such as color or labels, and, do you see this as a work in progress or an end product?
Thanks,
John

With already working two jobs, there's only so much I can realistically accomplish.billybob62 wrote:Hi Don,

I'm pretty happy with the color, to quote Mr. Ford, "any color you like, as long as you like black"

The resins are definitely a work in progress. The few I sold in April didn't hold up well in summer temps, so I came up with a custom resin, which so far seems good. But who knows what surprises will pop up after a few hundred are scattered a ross the world.
As for labels, I'm pretty happy with being being able to read the impression lifted from the original. Besides, I don't think I could keep the price as low if I had to order labels or print, cut and paste them on myself. A huge part of this project has been to keep the $20 price point, which I'm going to work very hard to maintain for the 78's.
Part of my doing this is ideological, for anyone to be able to afford and enjoy a classic piece of history without fear of damaging a rare original. I'm perfectly happy owning and playing copies of the rare discs people loaned me, and I'm sure many others now are as well.

And as far as labels go, they are easy enough for the average person to make and glue on.. if wanted.

For the DDs, I can just copy the labels from the 5 volume set I bought recently here on TMF.

So I'm playing a "The Shining" party soon, and of course, I need a copy of "Midnight, the Stars, and You" which, as everybody knows, goes for nearly a thousand bones.
Any chance you could roll me one of those, Don?

Just a public plug for Dons records. I received my copy today (Charleston). I find it INCREDIBLE! Looks and sounds like a REAL 78 shellac record. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, if just for the uniqueness of it, or simply the bragging rights. I am still astonished. Don has figured out a way to CLONE a record. I wish him well in his experimentation! Only time will tell how these records will hold up. I will enjoy mine until that time. Thanks for offering this record to the forum! Steve Levi
