What makes these so desirable/expensive...? They appear to be very heavy...

Anything with the name Expert, EMG or Ginn has its price multiplied in the English market, they were produced in small numbers and the machines have a high reputation in terms of manufacturing and quality of sound reproduction. The soundbox is heavy indeed, but it is well built and can be altered to different spectral responses which makes it attractive to collectors. There are also counterweights made by the manufacturer to offset the soundbox heavy mass. Its highest value to me is its acoustic performance, but only when used in conjunction with an Expert/EMG machine: they were built to work as a harmonized set in the acoustic path including the horn.

I suppose it is supply-demand, but that price is ridiculous!
