Credeza Crate Creation

Post by Victrola-Monkey »

You may have seen my postings of my Credenza Cart and my Credenza Pallet creations to move around and ship these big machines. Now, the Credenza Crate. Actually, it's a VV 8-30 crate I just built for a VV 8-30 I recently sold. This brings the 170 lb. weight of the Victrola to 395 lbs. with dimensions of 58" x 40" x 32". The following are some details about it I shared with the buyer:

The key is to support the VV 8-30 off it's feet solid without shifting around, and isolated it on all sides from any impact or vibration, including from the bottom.

My method utilizes a base platform bolted solid to the bottom of the phonograph (to 4 threaded metal holes used in the original crate) that keeps it off its feet and away from a layer of plywood that lays on top of a layer of 2" Styrofoam board that lays on top of the crate bottom panel. I went through all this so the VV 8-30 would not be bolted solid to the bottom crate panel and therefore not have any impact or vibration protection. With the additional 5 sides of 2" Styrofoam boards packed tight around inside the crate, the VV 8-30 won't move, yet is 100% isolated from the crate.

The added benefit of having the VV 8-30 bolted to the base platform, is that once you remove the 5 crate panels and 5 foam boards you can just slide the VV 8-30 over on top of a dolly for easy transport to final destination and still have it off it's feet.
