(Seriously, that is a beautiful cabinet, and I wonder what it would take to turn it back into a phonograph).
An enormous amount of work. The tone arm, turntable, motor & other fittings - of which a Cheney has many - can be found, but you'll be paying. You'll need to recreate the entire wooden horn system and the fretwork. It could be done, but you'd be spending thousands....and end up with a machine that might fetch $500 on a good day
That's the "beef"... Cheneys in mint condition won't sell for one fourth of the asking price... no matter what the modern equivalent of the original selling price might be.
They tend to ve the victim of the "oh that's too big" problem. Even on this forum we get the repeated opinion "consoles are just space fillers"

Cheney's are definitely higher above other Off-brands of the time and I think they sound pretty good, but this is just a lot of work.

This could be made into a really beautiful album storage unit, but that is about it

Thank you, estott, for summarizing what it would take to turn this back into a phonograph. I wasn't seriously considering it, but I imagine just the job of recreating the missing dual horn would be an enormous undertaking.

Best wishes, Mark
