How do you know with certainty that the crank isn't original?

Re: Wanted: Straight Crank for Victor A
I bought a Trademark Berliner a few years ago. It was quickly pointed out that the crank was curved and incorrect. That may be true but the crank was original and had no marks where it had rubbed on an escutcheon. I assume the original flat crank was lost when the machine was being used and replaced by a Victor crank. I can live with a replacement part that was purchased back when the machine was current. I can't tell if the crank in this thread has escutcheon marks making it a more recent replacement part.

Re: Wanted: Straight Crank for Victor A
This crank looks suspiciously like one for an Edison Home model B, or even the Amberola D-X I own (they're identical). I note two shades of plating divided about half-way down the shaft, indicating what would've been the innermost section protected from the elements. It would be very easy to have drilled out the internal threads, and mill the two slots to accept the winding shaft of this Victor A.

It sure does look like something happened to that crank.

Yes, and the wear marks from having once been used in a guide bushing prove it is incorrect for your Victor A.
