Not at home and don't remember right off hand the model of my Victrola stand up model but I have a question for the more experienced.
I disassembled, cleaned, oiled the motor and repacked the main springs on a machine I got cheap. Noticed most every screw on the motor was already loose and did not think much about it, that is until the first run after the rebuild.
After setting the speed to 78 the platter was not spinning smoothly, that is everything was spinning freely but when playing a record the sound had a warble to it.(Only way I can think to describe it)
Found several things, governor springs were bent so I straightened them and also balanced the assembly.
The big thing was the brass governor gear was off center to the main shaft it is mounted to, the center hole had been machined or drilled off center. Very noticeable while watching the machine run.
No sign that it had been tampered with by anyone, it fit on the shaft with almost zero play so no one had been filing on it with a file.
Looks like it came this way, might be the reason things were left loose to try and compensate for this.
I have brass rod and a lathe so I bored the gear out and put a sleeve in it and now the motor is smooth and steady.
My question is, could this have been a cheap reproduction gear that could have been put in later???
Hate to think it came from the factory that way.
Sure looked original other than the crummy quality control.
Victrola governor gear question.

I can't answer your question, but I am curious what you did to balance the governor?

Re: Victrola governor gear question.
Really all I did to get the governor balanced is to remove some washers someone had put behind the screws that hold the springs on. That along with straightening the springs got it balanced pretty good.
