Interesting repair label in early VV-IX

Post by outune »

Hi All- I took in a repair on an early VV-IX and was pleased to see an interesting label under the motorboard. First, there is a dealer decal inside the lid, just behind the tonearm. The Knight-Campbell Music Company of Denver, CO. The machine was left in a Colorado cabin when the owner's family bought the place about 50 years ago. The finish is outstanding!

Inside is a repair label indicating that the motor was overhauled in 1928 at the same Knight Campbell Co. This is an early IX with the piano hinges on the door, and the early Vic III type motor with wide gear spacing. I believe it would date around 1911-12... meaning that 16 years or so later, the dealer was still willing to do the motor service on it and warranty their work for 6 months! That's good customer service! Of course the label specifically states that spring breakage was not covered. :)

Just thought I'd share this interesting label-- It's the first one I've come across.

Nice labels. I see the warrantee has run out so be careful. At least they gave warrantee in 1928. Tom B

Interesting label. Also, it's nice to think that the little IX was being enjoyed while homes were being invaded by radios.
