I'm not sure I understand... is the principle like a Victor Revere to bounce sound off the wall (as opposed to the floor)?

I once tried some experiments with an HMV 102 portable I used to own, setting it on a small table in the corner of the room, and facing the corner, so the sound would bounce off the walls. It didn't seem to extend the range, but it sure made it louder.
