Wich reproducer for a Graphophone Type A?

Post by flaprise »

Hello,
I just bought this Graphophone A (New York) and the reproducer doesn't seems to be a Columbia. I'd like to know wich type of Columbia reproducer is correct for this machine and what price should I expect to pay. Thanks!
Francois

The reproducer you have is a nice one, even though it is a German one. The correct reproducer you need is the small Aluminum one that says reproducer. It is essentially the same as for the Model B Eagle. I have seen these machines with the later Q ones, because they sound better with the heavier weight.

Harvey's right - the "Eagle" type reproducer would be historically correct for a New York A. Here's an image from the Antique Phonograph Society's website, found in an article titled, Basic Antique Phonograph Operational Tips:

However, you don't want a "Q" reproducer for it - - I think Harvey meant to say a "D" reproducer. These were a common upgrade for the earlier reproducers. Another image from the same article:
