Victor Trolley Car Cards Advertising 1920's

Post by Stephen_Madara »

Wanted to share some pictures of a book in my collection. Victor kept books showing all of the advertising that they produced. This book is for Victor Car Cards from 1926-27 which I believe would be for Trolley Cars?. One thing I learned from this is that they issued different titles for the east and west coast markets during the same time period. To give you an idea of how many different cards there may be this shows 44 issued in the west and 45 in the east between December 15 1926 until July 8th 1927

What a fascinating document. I would love to see this in person one day. How do you find this stuff? It looks like someone put this together from other sources. Nicely done.

I have a few trolly cards and they are really great advertising pieces to hang with your collection. And, this document would be a great record of the various types that came out in the early orthophonic era.

Stephen,

Dan took the words right out of my head: fascinating. :) I've never seen such a document, and what a unique resource. Thanks for sharing. :)

Any chance you're coming to the Wayne, NJ show this fall?
If so, could you be bribed (free coffee, hot dogs, etc.)into bringing the trolley card book along? :D

Here are some trolley cards that I reproduced on foamboard.

Here is one in the collection from April 1927

Notice that it appears in Stephen’s original book!

Also notice that it was replaced by Forgive Me that Gene posted above.

Here is the decision from Victor that Trolley Card advertising was being discontinued as of July 1, 1929 because it was not deemed effective.

How large are the actual trolley cards? My apologies if this has been discussed and I missed the post.

Best,
