Re-felting a turntable

Post by Steve Stephens »

Or, better yet, WRAPPING a turntable.
I've not seen this method of felting a turntable before. I am always amused or amazed by how sellers describe and rate the condition of their items.

"Wood is in FANTASTIC original condition with a gorgeous finish."
I'm not sure if that is the original finish or not. The color just doesn't look right. Maybe under certain storage conditions the finish could get discolored like that.

There is also another VV-VI on ebay today, professionally restored, that makes me scratch my head when looking at the machine and reading the seller's description. In his defense, he does seem to have very satisfied customers and seems to specialize in these little Victrolas and rebuilding their parts.

"Beautiful Tiger Oak with flawless finish. A few wood nicks enhances the antique."
Note the application of the turntable felt.

And a relisted VV-VIII, early model that I would love to have, but not THIS one:

"NOT MUCH AT ALL TO HAVE THIS TALKING MACHINE IN LIKE NEW CONDITION VERY SOLID FOR THE AGE. THE ONE CORNER NEEDS A LITTLE ATTENTION AND PRETTY MUCH RESTORING THE WOOD TO ITS NATURAL BEAUTY."
I see almost all the corners have significant damage.

Geez, I must be too picky!

To my taste the wood looks blah, and the turntable is awful..
