Mahogany 7" Berliner record holder box custom?

Post by Stephen_Madara »

I purchased a record collection this week with some 7" discs some of which were stored in this box. It looks to be mahogany and definately old. My question is whether it's a custom piece, home made or found in any catalogs. The lid closes with two hooks , there are two hooks inside for the front panel which must be folded down to remove the records. I do not see any markings anywhere. Stephen Madara

That is a cool box. Thanks for sharing. Can't help you with your question, unfortunately.

If you do a Google search for --

Berliner Record Case

-- you'll spot quite a number of references, like this one: http://www.myvintagetv.com/berliner.htm

These are very rare, and seldom surface. There was an oak one for sale on this forum back in July:

Victor also offered storage cases, though not as fancy --

That's an interesting record storage box. I've never encountered one like it in catalogs or in person. It's curious that it has a mahogany finish. Any chance that it might have originated in Europe - where The Gramophone Co. and its subsidiaries sold mahogany machines?
