It's my personal belief that the co. was experimenting with the vertical slotted storage while the drawers were still being used. I assume they desired to use up the large inventory of drawers before producing the "updated" version of their Chippendale -- the C 19 -- scheduled to make its debut in April 1919. The same system of vertical slots was also to be used for many of their other post-1919 models.
From at least a manufacturing point of view, it would have made sense to streamline production by utilizing the same system on multiple cabinets.
The drawers with slots were very short lived.
To the OP: I hope some of this information results in your ability to procure the proper record storage system your C 19 requires. I don't believe it should be terribly difficult to find the earlier 2-drawer, 5-compartment drawers you might need, but the transitional 2-drawer, individual record slotted drawers would likely be problematic.
