Shenandoah Floor Model Phonograph

Hi. I just purchased this at an auction and don't know much about it. I keep thinking it should have a horn, but am not sure. Should it? Anyone know anything about this thing?

If you remove the decorative front grill, you should see the horn. Usually you can just lift the grill up a bit, then the bottom of the grill will clear the machine and you can remove the grill.

How much did you pay for the Shenandoah? I found the same one for sale locally and I'm considering buying it.

That looks very similar to the Shenandoah model AX from 1920 --

A simple and inexpensive machine, but the quartered oak veneer elevates it a bit.

There is no "set value" or price guide... it all depends on what someone is willing to pay. "No name" or off brand machines are not very desirable, unless they are extremely well made and stylish. If you are trying to determine the amount to buy it for, less is better, but no more than $150-$175 max... and only if you like it... And, that being said, I personally wouldn't buy it for any price. If you want a good machine, wait for a Victrola, Edison or Columbia. Just my opinion.

$200 was the asking price, I offered $100, they countered with $150. I dont think I want to go any higher than $125 but I dont know enough about them to be sure I'm not throwing my money away. I found similar items on Ebay with a wide range of prices, one as high as $995. I won't resell it, I don't need the money, it's for the kids and grandkids to enjoy for years to come.
