I don't know if Victor ever used a horn like this. But when I saw the picture, it reminded me of my first phonograph I ever owned. I bought it at an auction for $150. It was a Zon-o-phone with a strange recessed panel in the cabinet where the decal was placed. Overall it was a nice find for the price, but needed plenty of work. The horn you showed is very similar to the one on the Zon-o-phone. Mine didn't have the flowers, but everything else is nearly identical. This probably didn't help much, but it's interesting nonetheless. :D

I think a lot of dealers sold machines with fancy painted horns if that's what the customer wanted, so the horn is probably correct for the machine, but it's not a Victor issued horn.

Victor didn't supply its machines with horns like this, but aftermarket manufacturers offered them for customers who wanted something a little different. Hawthorne & Sheble, the Tea Tray Company, and the Standard Metal Manufacturing Company were among the largest suppliers of horns. The one shown looks perfectly legit, and is certainly more interesting than black & brass or the black Victor petaled horns.

A after market would not be a victor factor equipped horn would it?

The meaning of "after market" is non standard factory parts.H&S made horns for many different companys. You see many for sale that were for cylinder machines.Disc horns don't turn up as often and are usally beat up.

Have I ever seen an early Vic II with a painted horn? Well, there's one right in my foyer. I believe the horn and machine to be all original with the H&S horn being an upgrade for the discriminating buyer.

Hi phono friends - Been a while since I've posted here but have enjoyed reading the many topics. in the interim! Per this thread, here is a video of my Vic-III with original red H&S horn. I bought the machine and horn as found (and seen here) directly out of the home of the original owner many years ago. As George mentioned, these aftermarket horns add interest (and value) to the machine and are much more difficult to find than the regular issued Victor horns. Best Wishes, Doug

Victor did not make horns in its factory, as far as I know, so really all Victor horns are in a sense after market products. The difference, I guess, is that Victor stocked the black horns at the factory and shipped them from there to the distributors, whereas the decorated horns were shipped from the horn manufacturer (who may have been the same manufacturer who supplied the Victor factory).
