A treat for Bowlly fans - a Bowlly TEST PRESSING!

Post by JHolmesesq »

Hello everyone! I've just joined this forum, so I guess this will be my first post. I've recently become a big fan of 78 collecting since I bought a small wind up at my universities' vintage fair. I am 19, and I think it's a great shame that more people my age don't share my interest, I predict a lot of good music being lost when this current generation passes.

Anyway, back on topic - a disc I recently picked up, an Al Bowlly test pressing. The seller had no information other than the fact it was taken off the master stamper in the 60's. It's pressed on vinyl but spins at 78 meaning a really nice song but with very little noise :)

Love it! I'm a Bowlly fan of the purest ray. I like how vinyl shows how wide the recording range was by the mid to late thirties. This is a Decca recording, was it not?

I really am not sure. I haven't found a similar song on youtube so I can't be sure what the original release was

Matrix # DR-3056-1 was released as side 2 of "Al Bowlly Remembers" ('I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter'; `Auf Wiedersehen, My Dear') on Decca No.F-6916, with "novelty accompaniment" and was recorded in London Nov 11, 1938.

This is part 1.

Hi Jonathon, I see you joined after my advising you about this board, you will learn a lot on this board, I have, and am still learning a lot from this board, and I am 70. I have always liked that song, "I'm Going To Right Down And Write Myself A Letter", who is the composer?
