Columbia Grafonola Reuse

Post by cweastlick »

I picked up a Columbia Grafonola "C". When I got it home and started looking closer I noticed a steel plug in the right side a few inches away from the crank hole. Then I found three more plugs on the motor board. It does not appear that the holes have ever been used for anything else. The one on the right side of the case did not have any screw holes where an escutcheon was used. Did Columbia reuse "left over" stock to start building new and similar models? The plug on the right side is stained to match the wooden case and all of the finish on the case is original. Look at the pictures below and tell me what you think. I was thinking about removing the plug and filling the holes but if it came from the factory like this I'll leave it alone.

I also think those are factory plugs and I would not change a thing. Jerry B.

Jerry is right. I would leave this alone. These little oddities make these machines so interesting.
