And I found some useable record labels that had come off the records that were stored in the cabinet -

What a really interesting post---many thanks. It is always so fascinating to see contemporary everyday items, ephemera and anything that shows general life surrounding our specific interest.

What a find. The extras are nice. It’s interesting reading the letters, it gives insight into the history and mindset of the owners. Just think letters back then and now we have email and texting.

'Tis a pity that future historians will not have these insights into life when our times become the past since texts and emails won't be around.

I contacted the folks I bought the phonograph from and these personal documents are from the wife's family, her great aunt Thelma, and Alfred was her grandfather. She was tickled to know of their existence, so I am going to mail them back to her (they live about 140 miles from me).

Thank you for sharing. I love these kinds of threads. I'm glad people are still finding old things in their machines.

BTW: Great gesture on sending back the family related items.

Cliff, I'd love to see an image or three of the fumed cabinet, throughout - if that wouldn't be too much trouble.

Best,

It looks like that phonograph possibly was being used thru the late 30s and early 40s so they must have been lovingly caring for it. Those are nice items to come with the record player. I guess I can not brag about the used needles I find in mine. Tom b

Careful what you wish for...

This machine has the 'Shield' grill, the first one I've seen except in pictures.
